Everyday Makeup Routine

If you’re reading this post it’s probably because I’ve left a comment on your blog reminding you of my existence. Now that you’re here and I’ve got your attention: Hello! How have you been doing? How is 2017 treating you so far? It’s been an emotional rollercoaster for me already, but more on that in a subsequent post. For now, let me quickly take you through what I’ve been slapping on my face every morning.

One of the main reasons I’ve not been blogging as much as I used to is that, as far as makeup is concerned, I’ve hit a comfort zone with the products I use. I’ve found colours that suit me and products that work, and the part of me that used to want to experiment has sort of taken a back seat over the past couple of months. Nevertheless, as you can probably tell from the pictures in this post, there are a few products here that you wouldn’t have seen earlier on my blog, and I’d like to tell you why I like using these or how they came about into my life. So let’s get into this! Continue reading “Everyday Makeup Routine”

Chronograph Chronicles

Happy new year everyone! I hope you had a wonderful New Year celebration – regardless of whether it was a quiet one with family or binge drinking with friends. Although it looks like I have fallen off the face of the earth, I’ve really been reading up on a ton of your posts though not quite commenting or interacting because I’ve just been a bit unmotivated on the whole blogging front. However, I’d like to kick off this year with a post on something that gets a lot of love from me – a good watch.

December has really been a rough month for my bank account. I went on a ridiculous spending spree but the upside is that I have a lot of ‘New In’ posts that I can write for a few weeks!

I’ve had my eye on Fossil’s Abilene Chronograph since forever. I really felt the need for a new daily-wear watch because I am prone to very rapid boredom with routine. On Christmas day, we walked into a huge watch store that happened to have 25% off on Fossil, which in itself is a pretty rare phenomenon. I was almost about to bring Abilene home, but the SA conveniently threw in the fact that Michael Kors was also on offer. We had a look at the models they had on display, and I fell in love with the mini Blair watch. Now, I personally adore large dials. But I have an extremely tiny wrist, so I find that the mini size of Blair looks decently over-sized on me. Do I wish it were a shade larger? Yes. But am I delighted with my purchase? Oh a hundred per cent yes. I don’t think I’ll ever get over the rose gold watch trend and the stones on the dial just make it that much prettier.

Okay so this is all hunky-dory up till now. But there is a plot twist. You may recall that that I said I felt the need for a daily-wear watch. Although the Michael Kors is a beauty, I’m sure you’ll agree that it’s too pretty and a shade too bling-y to wear every day. Plus I don’t want the novelty to wear off. So I was in a dilemma. I was the proud owner of a gorgeous watch but my original problem still hadn’t gone away. The universe sent me a sign last week through a notification of an online sale that had Abilene at 40% off. The rest is history.

I now own 4 watches and a skeletal bank account. I think I am going to impose a ‘no shopping ban‘ on myself for three months. Do you think that will work? I’d love to know if you’ve done something along those lines because I’m genuinely worried for my health.

I hope you’re having a great day and I’ll be back soon with another ‘new in’ post!

Shades of Pink + CaseApp Collaboration

I always feel like it’s a personal failure when a product that so many bloggers rave about as Holy Grail doesn’t work for me. I popped into Kiehl’s recently and happened to ask for a sample of the Midnight Recovery Concentrate, which has been sitting in my Nykaa wishlist since ages and would have eventually made it to my bag. First off, I really love the scent of it – it’s so therapeutic and I felt like I actually helped me sleep better. But I’ve used it three days and I have three new pimples on my face, which I think is one too many to ignore. I have sensitive, acne-prone skin and I do try to avoid oils as such because they tend to aggravate my pores. I wish I could explain this away to stress or another product but the timing has coincided perfectly with just the MRC. Funnily enough I didn’t think my skin looked remarkably different either – the way everyone says that the difference is noticeable? But yeah, like I said, I felt like I’d let the beauty community down by not getting on with the MRC. I’d like to give it a try some other time in future but for now it looks like we haven’t gotten off to a great start.

Product Empties | Vol. 1

I’ve been MIA for the longest time, I know. And I’m not sure I have any excuses. Let me see. My last post was roughly two weeks ago. Since then, our Prime Minister declared 500 and 1000 rupee notes as no longer legal tender, Donald Trump was elected US president, I finally took the plunge and placed a FeelUnique order, our cook is on holiday for two weeks and since I am hopeless in the kitchen I’ve been surviving mostly on pizza and maggi noodles. (I swear I’ll learn how to cook, I just need time.) Though I haven’t been particularly busy, I’ve been suffering from a mild form of bloggers’ block. This morning I was just starting to do my brows, and I realized that the spoolie on my Benefit Gimme Brow was running very low on product. As someone who’s only ever managed to finish Bioderma, I thought this was quite an achievement, and so here is my first ever Empties post!

Of course Bioderma’s Sensibio H2O micellar water had to make it to this list. This is my fourth bottle this year (two of them have been the smaller bottles though!) I love this for removing my makeup and I would absolutely repurchase – in fact I always keep a backup of this on hand, which I’ll now be breaking out!

The Batiste Dry Shampoo Plus is a Godsend!

If you follow me on twitter you’ll know that I recently started watching Downton Abbey again – I was quite hooked to it a few years back, but I gave up on it after they killed off pretty much everyone in season 3 (only a slight exaggeration). Well this weekend I went back to binge-watching it and ended up finishing season 1 on Saturday and season 2 on Sunday. I had forgotten how addictive it is!

Of course staying up till 3am watching TV shows – something I am guilty of more often than I care to admit – means that I can’t wake up on time in the mornings, ever. You know that girl who’s always running late? That’s me. My morning workout routine seems to be running around to get ready for work. I’m struggling to iron my clothes, to slap on some makeup, to grab a bite, etc etc etc. And in the midst of all this madness, you can be sure I have absolutely no time to wash my hair. Now that it’s almost waist-length it takes ages to wash and ages to dry and well… a lot of prior planning is required.

There are some products that I’m happy to have learned about from the beauty blogging universe – like what on earth’s a primer. And then there are other products that I’m downright grateful to have learnt about – like dry shampoo. And when it comes to dry shampoo, Batiste is the first brand that comes to my mind. They’re a cult classic in the UK and I have seen countless (and I mean countless) YouTube beauty gurus and beauty bloggers swear by their dry shampoo. So I was absolutely delighted when Batiste finally launched in India!

Autumn Wardrobe & Vanity Essentials

Though Mumbai rarely gets cool, aside from during December, I was in Pune recently for Diwali and there you can definitely feel a chill in the air, especially during the evenings. I just need half a reason to throw on comfy knits and scarves, so I decided to do a post with a few of my autumn essentials. Hopefully I’ll get round to doing a part 2 in this because I can think of so many more things to feature (I’m very aware of the fact that I haven’t featured any boots or candles in this post!). But for now, here goes!

Nykaa So Matte! Lipstick in Naughty Nude: Review & Swatches

The Indian beauty blog universe was abuzz with the new Nykaa So Matte! lipsticks so of course I had to pick one up to see for myself what the hype was about. These lipsticks come in 12 different shades, most of which are pinks. From the initial swatches I really liked the look of the shades Wicked Wine and Mischievous Plum since I really like dark lipsticks. However Wicked Wine looks pretty close to the Rimmel 107 which I already own, and though Mischievous Plum is gorgeous, I really didn’t think I’d get much wear out of it. So I settled for Naughty Nude which is a peachy-brown shade.

Kiehl’s Turmeric & Cranberry Seed Masque Review | A Wednesday Pick-Me-Up

I keep telling myself that I’ll blog more often throughout the week but after Monday I seem to directly hit Friday. This past week work has been so hectic and things got quite ugly on Friday because I ended up losing my cool multiple times. Plus I think most people would be frustrated if they were at work till 11pm (yes 11PM!) on a Friday. So as you can imagine, that was just delightful and the week ended on a supremely high note. *heavy sarcasm*

Two things that have gotten me through this week are Late Night with Seth Meyers and the Kiehl’s Turmeric & Cranberry Seed Masque, both of which were discoveries through good ol’ Youtube. I was watching Trevor Noah videos on Donald Trump and happened to stumble upon Seth Meyers. Can I just put it out there that I for one am extremely bummed that Seth Meyers is married? Evidently so was Jennifer Lawrence so, y’know, we’re in the same club, Jennifer Lawrence and I. Ha right.

I heard about the Kiehl’s Turmeric & Cranberry Seed Masque in one of Fleur De Force’s videos and I was intrigued by the claims of the mask. By Wednesday my skin starts to look a bit dull and can definitely use a pick-me-up. This mask is supposed to give you instant radiance and revitalize your skin.

The MAC Matchmaster Foundation just attained Holy Grail Status

I’m not much of a heavy duty makeup wearer every day, but I do like something to even out my skin tone at the very least. I find that Lisa Eldridge was quite right when she said that if you make the base perfect, you don’t really need too much makeup after that, and that’s exactly what I like to do for a natural every day look.

I had mentioned in an earlier post that my Bourjois CC Cream is lovely and does a great job, but I was a bit bored and wanted to experiment. I did some research and found that the MAC Face & Body foundation gives quite sheer and skin-like coverage so I thought I’ll give it a go. So the other day, I walked into my nearest MAC store and asked for the MAC Face & Body. Turns out that it wasn’t in stock but I had resolved to go back home with a MAC foundation (stubborn Aries characteristics peeking through!) so when the SA suggested Matchmaster instead, I thought I’ll test it out.
