If you’re reading this post it’s probably because I’ve left a comment on your blog reminding you of my existence. Now that you’re here and I’ve got your attention: Hello! How have you been doing? How is 2017 treating you so far? It’s been an emotional rollercoaster for me already (hint hint: boy trouble), but more on that in a subsequent post. For now, let me quickly take you through what I’ve been slapping on my face every morning.
One of the main reasons I’ve not been blogging as much as I used to is that, as far as makeup is concerned, I’ve hit a comfort zone with the products I use. I’ve found colours that suit me and products that work, and the part of me that used to want to experiment has sort of taken a back seat over the past couple of months. Nevertheless, as you can probably tell from the pictures in this post, there are a few products here that you wouldn’t have seen earlier on my blog, and I’d like to tell you why I like using these or how they came about into my life. So let’s get into this! Continue reading “Everyday Makeup Routine”→
I always feel like it’s a personal failure when a product that so many bloggers rave about as Holy Grail doesn’t work for me. I popped into Kiehl’s recently and happened to ask for a sample of the Midnight Recovery Concentrate, which has been sitting in my Nykaa wishlist since ages and would have eventually made it to my bag. First off, I really love the scent of it – it’s so therapeutic and I felt like I actually helped me sleep better. But I’ve used it three days and I have three new pimples on my face, which I think is one too many to ignore. I have sensitive, acne-prone skin and I do try to avoid oils as such because they tend to aggravate my pores. I wish I could explain this away to stress or another product but the timing has coincided perfectly with just the MRC. Funnily enough I didn’t think my skin looked remarkably different either – the way everyone says that the difference is noticeable? But yeah, like I said, I felt like I’d let the beauty community down by not getting on with the MRC. I’d like to give it a try some other time in future but for now it looks like we haven’t gotten off to a great start.
I’ve been MIA for the longest time, I know. And I’m not sure I have any excuses. Let me see. My last post was roughly two weeks ago. Since then, our Prime Minister declared 500 and 1000 rupee notes as no longer legal tender, Donald Trump was elected US president, I finally took the plunge and placed a FeelUnique order, our cook is on holiday for two weeks and since I am hopeless in the kitchen I’ve been surviving mostly on pizza and maggi noodles. (I swear I’ll learn how to cook, I just need time.) Though I haven’t been particularly busy, I’ve been suffering from a mild form of bloggers’ block. This morning I was just starting to do my brows, and I realized that the spoolie on my Benefit Gimme Brow was running verylow on product. As someone who’s only ever managed to finish Bioderma, I thought this was quite an achievement, and so here is my first ever Empties post!
Of course Bioderma’s Sensibio H2O micellar water had to make it to this list. This is my fourth bottle this year (two of them have been the smaller bottles though!) I love this for removing my makeup and I would absolutely repurchase – in fact I always keep a backup of this on hand, which I’ll now be breaking out!
Though Mumbai rarely gets cool, aside from during December, I was in Pune recently for Diwali and there you can definitely feel a chill in the air, especially during the evenings. I just need halfa reason to throw on comfy knits and scarves, so I decided to do a post with a few of my autumn essentials. Hopefully I’ll get round to doing a part 2 in this because I can think of so many more things to feature (I’m very aware of the fact that I haven’t featured any boots or candles in this post!). But for now, here goes!
The Indian beauty blog universe was abuzz with the new Nykaa So Matte! lipsticks so of course I had to pick one up to see for myself what the hype was about. These lipsticks come in 12 different shades, most of which are pinks. From the initial swatches I really liked the look of the shades Wicked Wine and Mischievous Plum since I really like dark lipsticks. However Wicked Wine looks pretty close to the Rimmel 107 which I already own, and though Mischievous Plum is gorgeous, I really didn’t think I’d get much wear out of it. So I settled for Naughty Nude which is a peachy-brown shade.
I keep telling myself that I’ll blog more often throughout the week but after Monday I seem to directly hit Friday. This past week work has been sohectic and things got quite ugly on Friday because I ended up losing my cool multiple times. Plus I think most people would be frustrated if they were at work till 11pm (yes 11PM!) on a Friday. So as you can imagine, that was just delightful and the week ended on a supremely high note. *heavy sarcasm*
Two things that have gotten me through this week are Late Night with Seth Meyers and the Kiehl’s Turmeric & Cranberry Seed Masque, both of which were discoveries through good ol’ Youtube. I was watching Trevor Noah videos on Donald Trump and happened to stumble upon Seth Meyers. Can I just put it out there that I for one am extremely bummed that Seth Meyers is married? Evidently so was Jennifer Lawrence so, y’know, we’re in the same club, Jennifer Lawrence and I. Ha right.
I heard about the Kiehl’s Turmeric & Cranberry Seed Masque in one of Fleur De Force’s videos and I was intrigued by the claims of the mask. By Wednesday my skin starts to look a bit dull and can definitely use a pick-me-up. This mask is supposed to give you instant radiance and revitalize your skin.
I like to stick to neutral lips not just for work, but also in general since I’m quite heavy-handed with my eyeliner and mascara. Today I’ve got a budget as well as a high end lipstick both of which wouldn’t be new to many of you, but since these are my staples I wanted to share!
I’m not much of a heavy duty makeup wearer every day, but I do like something to even out my skin tone at the very least. I find that Lisa Eldridge was quite right when she said that if you make the base perfect, you don’t really need too much makeup after that, and that’s exactly what I like to do for a natural every day look.
I had mentioned in an earlier post that my Bourjois CC Cream is lovely and does a great job, but I was a bit bored and wanted to experiment. I did some research and found that the MAC Face & Body foundation gives quite sheer and skin-like coverage so I thought I’ll give it a go. So the other day, I walked into my nearest MAC store and asked for the MAC Face & Body. Turns out that it wasn’t in stock but I had resolved to go back home with a MAC foundation (stubborn Aries characteristics peeking through!) so when the SA suggested Matchmaster instead, I thought I’ll test it out.
I’ve been doing some measured shopping online. I say ‘measured’ because recently I was made to feel guilty by a number of parties on the amount of money I blow up every month. So this month, I’ve been a bit more disciplined. Also, I recently mourned throwing away a Body Shop eye cream because it had expired and I had forgotten it existed and had used it only once so I want to make sure I actually use the things I buy.
I’ve been meaning to do this post for quite a while but I kept postponing it because I knew it would take forever to do. Well now it’s finally here! I am a huge fragrance person; I can’t step out of the house without a spritz of perfume. I mostly lean towards slightly sweet, floral fragrances as you’ll see, but I occasionally like to switch it up. Let’s get right into the post then. (warning: this one is picture heavy!)
Let me just get the minis out of the way and then we can dive into the big ones!
1. Zara Woman Freesia & Vanilla EDT
My flatmate bought this fragrance and every time she wore it I seemed to fall in love with it a little more! This is a floral fragrance and it’s slightly sweet. I personally like sweet scents and this reminded me a bit of Zara’s Black Peony so I picked up a mini version so I can make up my mind about it. So far, no regrets! Plus Zara perfumes are quite reasonably priced so I may just pick up the regular sized version of this sometime in the future.
2. Ricci Ricci by Nina Ricci EDP
My mom picked up some mini perfumes while she was in Hong Kong recently, and she actually picked up Ricci Ricci for herself, and My Burberry for me (which I’ll talk about in a bit). I was sniffing all the perfumes she had bought, and when I opened this one, I accidentally got some on my hand. And for the next half an hour, I couldn’t stop sniffing it. It’s a really sexy scent, for me there’s no other way of describing it. It’s definitely quite mature and heavy as well, so this is one perfume I’d say you can’t really get away with during the day. But it’ll be perfect for a night out!
