Chronograph Chronicles

Happy new year everyone! I hope you had a wonderful New Year celebration – regardless of whether it was a quiet one with family or binge drinking with friends. Although it looks like I have fallen off the face of the earth, I’ve really been reading up on a ton of your posts though not quite commenting or interacting because I’ve just been a bit unmotivated on the whole blogging front. However, I’d like to kick off this year with a post on something that gets a lot of love from me – a good watch.

December has really been a rough month for my bank account. I went on a ridiculous spending spree but the upside is that I have a lot of ‘New In’ posts that I can write for a few weeks!

I’ve had my eye on Fossil’s Abilene Chronograph since forever. I really felt the need for a new daily-wear watch because I am prone to very rapid boredom with routine. On Christmas day, we walked into a huge watch store that happened to have 25% off on Fossil, which in itself is a pretty rare phenomenon. I was almost about to bring Abilene home, but the SA conveniently threw in the fact that Michael Kors was also on offer. We had a look at the models they had on display, and I fell in love with the mini Blair watch. Now, I personally adore large dials. But I have an extremely tiny wrist, so I find that the mini size of Blair looks decently over-sized on me. Do I wish it were a shade larger? Yes. But am I delighted with my purchase? Oh a hundred per cent yes. I don’t think I’ll ever get over the rose gold watch trend and the stones on the dial just make it that much prettier.

Okay so this is all hunky-dory up till now. But there is a plot twist. You may recall that that I said I felt the need for a daily-wear watch. Although the Michael Kors is a beauty, I’m sure you’ll agree that it’s too pretty and a shade too bling-y to wear every day. Plus I don’t want the novelty to wear off. So I was in a dilemma. I was the proud owner of a gorgeous watch but my original problem still hadn’t gone away. The universe sent me a sign last week through a notification of an online sale that had Abilene at 40% off. The rest is history.

I now own 4 watches and a skeletal bank account. I think I am going to impose a ‘no shopping ban‘ on myself for three months. Do you think that will work? I’d love to know if you’ve done something along those lines because I’m genuinely worried for my health.

I hope you’re having a great day and I’ll be back soon with another ‘new in’ post!

Shades of Pink + CaseApp Collaboration

I always feel like it’s a personal failure when a product that so many bloggers rave about as Holy Grail doesn’t work for me. I popped into Kiehl’s recently and happened to ask for a sample of the Midnight Recovery Concentrate, which has been sitting in my Nykaa wishlist since ages and would have eventually made it to my bag. First off, I really love the scent of it – it’s so therapeutic and I felt like I actually helped me sleep better. But I’ve used it three days and I have three new pimples on my face, which I think is one too many to ignore. I have sensitive, acne-prone skin and I do try to avoid oils as such because they tend to aggravate my pores. I wish I could explain this away to stress or another product but the timing has coincided perfectly with just the MRC. Funnily enough I didn’t think my skin looked remarkably different either – the way everyone says that the difference is noticeable? But yeah, like I said, I felt like I’d let the beauty community down by not getting on with the MRC. I’d like to give it a try some other time in future but for now it looks like we haven’t gotten off to a great start.

Revisiting New Year Resolutions

I always get contemplative on what I’ve achieved when the year has progressed far enough for the ‘months to remember’ to begin. You know those Pinterest quotes – ‘Make it a September/October/November/December to Remember’. Wait, does anyone say ‘Make it an October to Remember’? Anyway, you get my drift.

Obviously, one year is long enough to have numerous small personal achievements here and there. Traveling alone. Not losing your temper in an argument even when you know you’re right. Waking up early every day for a whole week when you’re a night owl. A technology detox. Usually for me, there is one achievement, however, that stands out every year and is reassuring in the sense that I can look back at the year and say to myself, ‘yes, that was the year I did this’. So 2014 was the year I moved to a new city for work. 2015 was the year I got into business school. Technically this year’s ‘accomplishment’ is still pending. And that’s when I thought I’d revisit my New Year resolutions for 2016.

Coz I’m all about that base

Hi everyone! I’m feeling a lot better now, I have some residual weakness from the fever but overall I’m feeling alright, minus some cramps because the universe hates me and I have to go through everything all at once.

I’ve been suddenly craving a new foundation. Does this happen to you girls as well? I mean, do you also randomly get an urge to change some part of your beauty routine? I get bored with foundation and eyeliner quite often, because I use these two products on an everyday basis. Oh, and mascara as well. And lipstick, I guess? Well, you get the drift.

Red nails make me happy

I caught a horrendous cold and ended up having to miss work today. You know you’re seriously ill if you have to take a day off on a Friday. The fact that my colds never seem to go away only adds to the fun of it all. Anyway, I’ve kicked in the medicines and hopefully I’ll feel better in time to enjoy the weekend!

So let’s get to the point of this post. I’m a neutrals girl through and through. More often than not, you’ll find me wearing a classic white or black top with jeans and I like to add some colour in through accessories, scarves or occasionally, even makeup rather than my actual outfit. Sometimes a pink lip or red nails is my way of jazzing up an outfit. I don’t wear too much red as such clothes-wise – I have two oxblood tops (I love oxblood!) and a plaid shirt which is dark red and navy – but that’s about it for the red in my wardrobe. I do, however, adore red nail polish. I have five – yes, five – different reds. And they are all different. I swear they are. And I love each one of them.

New to my beauty stash!

Hi there! Hope you’re all doing well. The beginning of this month was such a nightmare, I moved houses and I still feel like I’m not entirely settled, but I’m getting there. Moving was such a revelation, in more ways than one. I realized just how much stuff I have. I’m talking major, MAJOR hoarding. I was initially scarred to the point that I swore off any more shopping – clothes-wise. That resolve is slowly crumbling (linen shirts, anyone?) but let me show you what I bought WITHIN the rules – bath and beauty goodies from The Body Shop and Fabindia!

The Body Shop Rainforest Balance shampoo is an old favourite of mine. Before I get into this, here’s a quick lowdown of what my hair is like: I have naturally straight hair, which is quite fine but I have lots of it so volume at the ends is not a problem. It’s the roots which become intolerable within a day of washing (sometimes even the same day!), and the greasiness tends to wear my hair down overall. I recently got highlights but I don’t specifically buy shampoo and conditioner formulated for coloured hair, I’ll just pick up anything that promises volume.

Where have I been? // Musings

1

I’ve been MIA since so long. It’s not like I’ve forgotten about my blog. In fact, I often think about posting something but I can’t bring myself to write about anything interesting. Actually, scratch that. There are tons of things I’d like to write about, just that I don’t feel they would be interesting to other people. I’ve finally given up now, and so this post is going to be very self-centered. But then aren’t all blogs centered around the writer, to some extent? And I do enjoy reading those.. so here goes nothing.

A LOT has changed since I last posted. I gave my GMAT, and I got a 760 which was surreal. I genuinely don’t know how I managed it! That was early November, and then I got around to my essays for the Indian School of Business (ISB). I gave the interview on 28th Feb and walked out feeling miserable because I thought I hadn’t done well enough to get through. So much so that I caught a kaali-peeli (cab) to High Street Phoenix, Parel (15 minutes away from ITC Grand Central where my interview was) for some retail therapy.

If you didn’t know that Sephora has opened up in Palladium, you do now! I was pleasantly surprised and felt like a little girl in a candy shop, going “oooh shiny” at pretty much everything I laid my eyes on. But it’s all SO DAMN expensive. I tested out this lip stain thing by Stila (a brand that of course I’ve heard of, what with my youtube obsession) that looked nice but when I asked for the price it was 1800 INR. Sigh. The salesgirl would’ve laughed at me under ordinary circumstances but I was suited up (on a Sunday) thanks to my interview, so she was pretty nice to me, haha! Anyway, I decided to stick with a cute Soap ‘n Glory product (The Righteous Butter), since I’m an absolute sucker for things that smell nice, and made my way to the cash counter. By the way, even the aisle of doom at Sephora has stuff in the range of 600-700 INR, unless you want to pick up 30 cotton pads for 300 bucks. WHAT. Continue reading “Where have I been? // Musings”
